So I've been pretty negligent in updating this site for a while now. But Halloween came and went this year and the boys had a lot of fun. They dressed up as Batman and Robin. Felix was really into it. While we were getting Hugo ready to go Felix was on the front porch dressed as Batman fighting invisible bad guys and running all over the place. The next hour was a mad dash from house to house until he was exhausted. Hugo spent most of the night sitting in the wagon just watching all the strange creatures walking around. He walked up to a couple of houses but always turned around to leave before getting to the door. Needless to say they both crashed pretty hard that night once we got home.

Visit to the aviation museum
I had been meaning to bring the boys to the aviation museum for a while now. Their great grandfather (GG moustache) was a tail-gunner in a bomber during WWII and subsequently worked at the aviation museum until his retirement. We finally went yesterday and they loved it. We spend about 2 and a half hours looking at everything....some things 4 and 5 times! There is still a display in the museum featuring a photo of him and his colleagues recoving a plane from the bottom of a lake in Kapuskasing. The plane they recovered is also still on display. The boys had a lot of fun. Felix really liked seeing a photo of GG moustache and seeing where he sat in the bomber.
The first picture is the boys posing infront of the tail gunner position of a Lancaster bomber (where GG moustache sat as Felix kept saying). The second photo is Hugo preparing for flight!

Hugo and Giraffes
Hugo first encountered giraffes at Kalahari Resort in Sandusky Ohio on July 9th 2009....a very memorable day for him. We were staying at the resort and decided to take the boys to the little zoo that they have. We purchased a pail of carrots and proceeded to look around. Hugo was very into things and wanted to touch and feed everything. We then walked up a small caged-in wooden bridge to an caged-in observation platform to feed the giraffes. They had 2 giraffes there and while his older brother Felix hid behind us Hugo pulled and strained against my arms to get as close as he could to the giraffes. He proceeded to fearlessly feed and pet them as they brought their giant heads up against the fence. He was so excited.
This past weekend we took the boys to the Granby Zoo and headed over to the giraffe exhibit waiting to see Hugo's reaction. They were in the process of feeding them and the largest giraffe was very close. Hugo was looking all around but hadn't noticed the giraffe as we approached. Upon seeing the giraffe he went stiff as a board and starting frantically pointing and grunting at the giraffe. It was really funny. I think he was disappointed that we couldn't feed this one.
We then proceeded to the gift shop where they had all sorts of stuffed giraffes. Every time he saw one he grabbed it and gave it a big hug. We picked out a really nice soft one that he seemed to like and brought it home.
Before leaving the zoo we had to go see Hugo's giraffes one last time. They were pretty far away this time but he got all excited none the less and waved goodbye to them before leaving.
So now I have to figure out how we're going to get him to see the giraffes on a regular basis. A pretty mean feat when you live in Canada!

It Begins.....Again
So, why the title for this post? Well, we hit a major milestone on Monday. I took Felix to Lacroix Sports and bought him his first hockey equipment. So there's going to be another Aylen hitting the ice in Ottawa this year! He took skating lessons the last 2 winters and they went relatively well. We weren't sure if he was going to want to play hockey or not and we didn't want to push him into it. But over the last little while he has been very excited about playing hockey and we've had a number of talks with him about it. It's definitely something he wants to do....in fact he's quite excited about it.
We kind of figured he'd end up playing hockey, after all he's surrounded by it. Both Mel and I play hockey and are avid Sens fans so he's seen it all his life.
When we arrived at Lacroix Sports he proceeded to tell me that he wanted to buy goalie equipment. I had to explain to him that with Timbits hockey there are no goalies at first. Of course his response to that was that I was a goalie so why couldn't he be one? I had to explain to him that I had to start as a player too and that if he still wanted to be a goalie in a year or 2 from now then he could try it. Poor little guy....we haven't even suggested to him that he should be a goalie and he's already wanting to play what's got to be one of the strangest positions in sport. Nothing like putting on a suit of armour and choosing to try and get in front of hard rubber pucks flying at you!
So after about 45 minutes we had a full bag of equipment and Felix was very excited.
Registration is this week. It's going to be really weird going to hockey registration for my son. I'm looking forward to putting on my skates and helping out as a coach.
Once we got home he wanted to try everything on.
Future 2022 draft choice.......maybe if he has his mom's natural talent!
